The National Forest Recreation Area didn’t impress us when I visited with my family many years ago, but we made up for it by riding some local wildlife . In the center of the city, surrounded by skyscrapers and other tall buildings, you’ll find Taichung’s ‘green heart;’ a small park with a pond that’s perfect for a late-afternoon stroll. Check out the collection of colorful bears, then head down to the cafe for a coffee or tea. While there are plenty of good restaurants, do visit one of the night markets for local snacks.
To my surprise, breakfast prices are 2-3 times more expensive than the Taiwanese mainland. I was wondering if this only applies to non-Tao people but apparently not? Just behind the government administration building is the road up to the Lanyu Weather Station, which has some of the best views of the island. The turnoff has a white sign warning you not to ride a scooter up the hill, and to start walking. But if you have a powerful scooter, ignore these signs and just ride up.
