It’s possible to rent boats at popular times or even swim in the lake. Taitung Forest Park (臺東森林公園) is the 台東 伴手禮 largest green space in Taitung city. I recommend staying at Tiin Tinn – Rivershore B&B, it’s close to everything, clean, and the staff is friendly. The rooms are small but comfy, the decoration is great, and everything looks brand new. Breakfast is included, it’s a good mid-range option. One of the top Taitung food is traditional, aboriginal, food.
The views are phenomenal and offer stunning scenery, this part of Taiwan definitively is the most beautiful one. Going on a hot air balloon ride over the area is one of the best things to in Taitung. Jialulan Recreation Area, located less than a kilometer away, is an elevated seaside lookout adorned with several driftwood art installations.
The lanterns look lovely at night and give the place a special charm. Quite an enjoyable place to have a walk and relax. It has a number of artistic displays or constructs. Pleasant place to walk around, although most of the shops were closed on the weekday that we were there. It looks like it would be a lot of fun on a weekend though!
Grab a coffee from Jinzun Café (金樽咖啡), whose café offers an unbeatable view. The staircase down to the beach far below is in disrepair. Nearby, seafood lovers can head to Fugang Fish Harbor to enjoy one of the harborside seafood restaurants. There are loads of combinations to choose from including pork and chicken cutlets served with rich curry sauce flavoured with ginger. It’s NT$150 for a large serving of meat or 130 for a small one – I went 台東 名產 with the latter. Yizhong Street was just down the road from my hostel so I ate there both nights. It reminded me of Taipei’s Shilin Market because the stands merged with the permanent takeaway cafes and bubble tea shops with lots of them playing loud music. It was hard to know where the high street ended and the market began. Getting to Taitung Forest Park is easy with various transportation options available, including buses, taxis, and rental cars.

On a rainy season and around summer, the water level is high and the current is strong . I strongly suggest that you go on dry season which is winter or spring. Just go there early in the morning, bring food and water, enjoy a few hours in hot water then start climbing back up early afternoon before it gets dark.
