We saw 28mpg on a long run, and while tyre noise is there it’s not as intrusive as an equivalent 911. With little wind whistle from the hard roof fitted to both coupe and convertible and surprisingly good boot space, it’s a car you’d happily go touring in. No, not the Chevrolet Corvette officially being available in the UK – the C5 was available in Blighty last time Chevy tried to make inroads here – but the fact the steering wheel is now on the right hand side of the car. Available on 2LT and standard on 3LT, the GT2 seat features carbon-fibre trim with a seatback halo and is wrapped in genuine Napa leather. By moving the engine behind the seats, Chevrolet has turned the Corvette into a bargain-priced Ferrari complete with supercar performance.
With time the C7 got only worse, as illustrated by the ZR1's extracted wisdom-tooth jowls. In town or carving canyons, the impressive system almost completely masks a relatively hefty curb weight of 3,647 pounds. Of course, Chevrolet shipped me a maxed-out Corvette Stingray equipped Chevy C8 corvette with the 3LT and Z51 option groups, plus the Magnetic Selective Ride Control Suspension and even a front-axle lift setup. All the goodies tack on almost an additional 50% above a base Corvette, leading to a total $88,225 price tag including a $1,295 destination charge.
Exhaust note is only exciting at full throttle, limited driver-assistance features, manual transmission not offered. Possibly the most attractive element about potentially buying a new C8 involves today's insane car market, where just about anything else requires long waits and crazy dealer markups. After a rough rollout just as the pandemic hit, Chevy managed to bounce back and now, finding a new or lightly used Corvette only requires a few clicks on the keyboard. Some dealers may still charge markups, though most buyers may also want to wait until they can learn more about the more desirable Z06, hybrid, and electric versions. The 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray - abbreviated as Corvette C8 '20 and formerly known asChevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe - is a RWD sports car by Chevrolet featured in Forza Horizon 4 since Update 31. Oddly enough, that top speed applies only to the entry-level 2020 Corvette.
Transmission cutoutThe Stingray is only offered with an 8-speed dual-clutch automated transmission made by Tremec, with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The only other model years not offered with a manual transmission were the 1953–1954 C1 and the 1982 C3. The Corvette is the best bang-for-your-buck driving experience on the market, bar none. It’s brilliant on a racetrack, and is laidback and comfortable on poorly paved roads. It’s far more sedate and normal to cruise around in than you might imagine.
The first race goes similarly and the Z06 screams from 20 miles per hour to a victory. After one more race starting at 30 MPH and yet another Z06 victory, it’s clear that the car has too much power for the normal Stingray Corvette to handle. It’s weird to think of supercars like the 2023 Lexus LC 500 and Chevrolet C8 Corvette as daily drivers, but they are.
The Vette's handling is razor-sharp and endlessly rewarding on a twisty back road. Track days are a joy, with confidence-raising handling and massive amounts of power on tap that make blasting out of corners a hoot. And when it comes to commuting and road-tripping, the Corvette transforms into a comfortable cruiser with a near-luxury cabin, an agreeable ride, and a surprising amount of cargo capacity.
Get a firsthand look at the Hennessey 'H700' Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray in action. This video showcases the car's incredible power, speed, and handling as it navigates the Pennzoil Proving Ground Test Track, located at Hennessey Performance. This amazing video will give you a sense of what it's like to drive one of the most exciting muscle cars on the market.
Jack Fitzgerald’s love for cars stems from his as yet unshakable addiction to Formula 1. Remanufactured replacements are built with hindsight, avoiding potential problems that the manufacturers of the original engine were not able to prepare for. As such, a remanufactured replacement is likely to perform even better than the original, even when the original was new.
Even if you step up to Track, where the suspension is at its firmest, the way it controls lumps and bumps has to be commended. It makes a 911 GTS feel unyielding and an F-Type rather squishy. Of course GM has since ditched much of its European concerns, having offloaded Opel and Vauxhall to Stellantis. That means you won’t be rubbing shoulders with those after a Grandland or Corsa, although you’re probably in for a longer drive to get the car serviced. At the time of writing there’s only one dealer in the whole of the UK.
Flared fenders cover the mechanical bits, and new-for-the-Vette active aerodynamics pin it to the track. The Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 embodies the very essence of the American spirit of innovation and excellence. It allows drivers to tailor it to their individual tastes and preferences. While not as big of an issue, it is an annoyance and a reason to visit the car wash more frequently. This, of course, makes sense only if you will be hitting the racetrack, as the biggest benefits will be felt there.
This was even more true by the end of the generation, when the model was available with a fuel-injected 5.4-liter V-8 that could pump out up to 360 horses. There may be no Corvette that underwent more changes over the course of a generation than the C1. The car that began rolling off the line just six months after the 1953 GM Motorama was more of a rough draft than the finished article. It launched as a small roadster only available in Polo White over a red interior with a removable black top and looked very similar to the similarly compact sports cars being produced by Jaguar and MG. The C1 wouldn’t really come into its own until the 1956 redesign, which saw the car stretched out and outfitted with a new front fascia that called to mind that of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.
The first factory right-hand-drive Chevrolet Corvette Stingray starts at $144,900 before on-road costs for the base 2LT Coupe. Crucially, the C8 continues the value proposition that’s always been hallmark of the nameplate, with prices kicking off from under $150,000 before on-roads for the base model. But given that the 2022 C8 Corvette has a 6.2-liter V8, its gas mileage is more than decent. According to the EPA, the 2022 Corvette gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Car and Driver’s long-term 495-hp C8 Corvette Z51, for example, got 26 mpg on the highway, at 75 mph no less. That’s thanks to the V8’s cylinder deactivation as well as some engine changes Chevrolet made for 2022.
The C8, representing the eighth generation of the storied performance car, is still in production. Considering the C7’s seven-year tenure, the eighth-gen model has a few years ahead of it. The problem with mid-engined sportscars is the fact that they do not have ample space to allow the exhaust note to be fine-tuned to something that is characterful. The C8 Corvette faced similar challenges and it proved to be quite a hassle for the company's engineers. Rumors of breakage in the hatch glass covering the engine are being reported owing to the massive power output of the twin-turbo powerplant.
